New kitchen in Advie Place, Mount Florida, Glasgow
What was asked for:
At our initial meeting with Dr Perry we were tasked with creating a contemporary kitchen with a living area that was social, comfy and functional.
What we did:
We designed a new kitchen that gave additional room for a utility room and a large window to maximise light and give a more open view from the kitchen table.
The new design had the kitchen moved to the opposite wall than the original to leave the seating area close to the large window. The original back door was bricked up which gave room to create a utility area and keep noisy white goods out of the main cooking and eating area.
Dark ceramic tiles were used to contrast with the simple, light kitchen units. Storage space was maximised with plenty wall cupboards.
An at height cooker and microwave was integrated into a bank of ceiling to floor kitchen units for a sleek and minimalist look. This unit offers a huge amount of storage area while using minimal floor space. A tall cupboard such as this is a great way to integrate cleaver storage such as pull out, easy reach shelves and deep pot drawers.
The dining area incorporates a cushioned bench area that’s comfy enough to curl up on with a good cookery book while planning the next cooking session! It’s a lovely social area with it being open to the cooking space and we love how bright it is with all the natural light.
To contrast against the dark wall tiles we suggested under cabinet lighting to give a cosy, warm look and ensure the kitchen area stayed bright. Wooden worktops add to the warmer look whilst also being a practical and long lasting choice. A simple wooden floor was installed for a low maintenance and hygenic floor covering.
We’re really pleased with how this kitchen turned out; it’s bright, airy and contemporary and such a huge difference to how it was before!
